Around Minneapolis: Ness Nite at First Avenue 7th St. Entry
Stopped by my first First Avenue Show last night: Ness Nite Album Release Party, hosted by the awesome Mica Mary Jane.
The venue was First Avenue's 7th St. Entry, which is a smaller bar and stage attached to the main performance room. It's definitely not my favorite space, but very neighborhood-staple, local-in-the-know vibe. Everyone at the venue seemed to know each other and, more importantly, the performers and their lyrics. That was cool.
We arrived in time to see Dizzy Fae, alt-R&B artists based in the Twin Cities, who is a gorgeous human being.
After her set, we vibed a bit with DJ Bvkwoods, and then Ness Nite came on to perform off her new album release: Nite Time. Again, it was really cool seeing the crowd dance and get into it, and her energy was awesome.
Headed over to Uptown after First Avenue, to a a bar called called 'William's'. It was definitely not my favorite. I'm not sure if it was coming from Downtown and having to do the sudden change of crowd and ambience, or just the particular music/ atmosphere at the bar that night. Either way though, it wasn't my favorite place.
It feels too big to call a sports bar, but then too grunge-y to nail the rooftop vibe it's going for upstairs. Overall, just a poor clash of half-way attempts of opposite styles. (In my opinion!)
Happy Saturday folks,
