Around Minneapolis: CC Club, Bar Louie, and Fremont in Uptown

Went out for the first time in Minneapolis's Uptown yesterday night, after I- texted me that evening to see what I was up to. It was a rather unproductive and somewhat disheartening day, and I definitely needed to do something social and get out of the house for a bit.

I met I- at CC Club in Uptown, with her sister and another friend. Both seemed really nice and cool, and were immediately open and friendly toward me. CC Club is not, as it's name suggests, a club in any way - it's more of a neighborhood-y bar, with some dinner seating, pool tables, and a large patio area in the back.

Again, the drinks were very reasonably priced - $6 for mixed drinks - which I've started to realize is pretty much the norm here in Minneapolis. Coming off of living in California and then traveling around Europe, this continues to strike me as such a good deal!

We hung out on the patio for a bit, and actually ended up sharing a table with a French guy and a woman from Guadalupe - their conversation honestly made me SO nostalgic for Paris, but we soon left CC club to head to Bar Louie.

I was actually surprised how many people seemed to be out and around in Uptown, it was definitely more lively and happening than I had given it credit for.

Bar Louie is basically a swanky restaurant / lounge at the edge of Uptown. The outdoor seating area is very beautiful (see above). The inside is a bit less sophisticated - it feels like someone went for a "upscale-sports-bar" vibe, which sounds as confused as it actually is. I really didn't like the indoor setup - the large flatscreen TVs that envelop the island bar on all sides clash with the industrial-modern upstairs balcony, and just the overall thing felt like it couldn't decide if it was going for approachable, or aspirational.

The outside felt totally different though, and was really comfortable and fun. The staff at Bar Louie are great - really nice people and excellent interactions with the guests. We met a ton of cool people here last night - a great mix of people from all over the Twin Cities, and even some people traveling from outside the state.

At one point, we left to go to the Fremont in Uptown, which is a one-room club just down the street from Bar Louie. On our way past it in the early part of the night, it had seemed really cool and the music very good. When we went back though, it definitely wasn't the type of scene I was looking for at that moment. It had gotten much more crowded in those few hours, and I'm never really one for small spaces and pushing. We didn't stay long, and ended up heading back to Bar Louie to finish our night.

Overall, I was definitely more impressed with Uptown than I expected, and have to shed some of my assumptions about the place!

Lots of love to Bar Louie and all the great people from last night,

- A
